PND Story 3

Posted by Jane

"Post Natal Depression "that’s just an excuse for time off work", "it’s all in your head".

At last, my much longed for baby had arrived. Happy, healthy, glowing well she was anyway! I on the other hand had never felt so sad, lonely, suicidal and downright hopeless.
It wasn’t supposed to be like this and comments like those above (from "friends" no less) certainly didn’t help me to admit to any problems.

Thankfully I had a great Health Visitor who "put me straight". Within a week I saw my G.P and attended the support group meeting and I haven’t looked back. It wasn’t plain sailing, it took time, determination and a good dose of "self-help" but I got there.

Nowadays, when faced with crises, I tell myself "you got through P.N.D, you can get through this!"
